From what i know.....
Songkran basically is "water festival" that celebrate by the thai people in Thailand.
However, in Malaysia songkran are celebrated by the siamese community in Kedah,kelantan,terengganu,perlis,pulau pinang and perak.
It also known as the Traditional New Year's Day.
It was celebrated during the mid of April from 13April to 15April which is the hottest month of the year.
Traditionally ,Songkran will be the best time to visit and
pay respect to the elder ,including family members,friends and neighbors.
Children show their respect by pouring scented water into the hands of elders and parents in order that bad luck will flow away with the water while seeking the blessing of the older people.
Beside of that ,people also will go to wat(thai temple) to pray and give food to the monk as to make good deeds.
During songkran , buddha image in the wat(thai temple) will be brought to an open-airpavilion outside of the temple to be bath by gently pouring water mix with fragrance over them.It is believe that it will bring good luck and prosperity for the new year.
Usually during the festival many small stalls and temporary shops can be found in the wat surrounding.
Many kind of things are sold such as foods, clothes , beverages ,toys , CD/VCD ,water gun ,talcum powder , fragrances and many more.
Beside of playing with water and powder ,there are some other activities that are held such as the Miss Songkran beauty contest.
Basically there are 12 girl with different zodiac are choosen to be the contester in the contest.
The winner will be judge by the audiences and the winner will be paraded around the village on a special decorated car

The most important things about Songkran is not just to have fun but it is about the respect that we must give to our elder and to be a better person by washing away all the bad luck and get some blessing from the elder to make our live better...
